Thoughts on blogging and writing recipes

Before I begin posting recipes I should probably tell you I love procrastinating, I hate blogging and I never measure any of my food. Unless it’s a new recipe or it’s for a baked dessert and it requires measuring then fine. But all meals are just eye-balled.
I absolutely LOVE chilli and spicy food so chilli flakes will feature in most recipes and if I mention certain herbs or spices being used then I won’t measure in teaspoons or whatever, unless it’s salt. I only use pink Himalayan salt and it’s pretty strong so usually just a pinch of that goes into food. I do everthing to taste and if it’s something I love I can sometimes over do it. Other things I love are cumin, corriander (seeds and fresh), lemon and pepper.

When I said I procrastinate it’s more because I’m a busy person and I’ve only recently completed my univeristy studies so I’m stuck in my student ways a little. As for blogging, I don’t really see the point of it but I’m only doing this one because I need a ‘recipe book’ and somewhere to write down recipe ideas I like. If you’re wondering “Why doesn’t she just write in a notebook?” it’s because my handwriting sucks. When I make notes, I can’t read it. My handwriting is constantly in illegible font and besides, if I wrote a recipe book for myself it would never get done, however, if it’s for the public then there’s more of a chance that I’ll actually do it.

When my procrastination/lack of time/hate for blogging all come together it means there may be periods of nothing going on here and then suddenly if I am bothered you may have a few posts in one day… you have been warned!

The need to get real

Since I came to the conclusion that I was sensitive to gluten things have been a little all over the place. Initially I knew nothing about what I could and couldn’t consume. I started by purchasing a few gluten free alternative foods but it wasn’t too long before I realised that the best thing for me would be to ditch ALL processed foods if possible, including the GF ranges. Just REAL food for me from now on inshaaAllaah (God willing).

Things started well when I was serious about my change in dietary needs but soon the novelty wore off! Being GF is not an easy task, particularly when you’re on this journey on your own and your entire family is still consuming the ‘normal’ everyday foods, thus I got a little bored and gave into temptation. Despite my good intentions and good results, motivation can sometimes be limited due to changes in emotions, how well or poorly the fridge is stocked and how much time I have. Thus I have decided to start making full use of this blog in order to share recipes, meal ideas and progress as a reminder for myself, further motivation when I lack inspiration with meals and also for anyone out there who either needs to or wishes to embark on a gluten free life.

Since a GF lifestyle is a big deal and requires a lot of care and attention, I figured it would be a good idea for me to learn about the Prophetic medicine and start implementing it in my life. This may just involve using certain herbs and spices because of their benefits, we’ll see how it goes. Afterall, I now eat olives and use vinegar after learning they were things the Prophet salallaahu alayhi wa sallam liked.

I should point out that although I am Gluten Free, I follow a paleo diet. There’s a page on this blog about it and you can access it from the main menu.
